What does Contract Month mean?
The month in which the future contact expires or actual delivery takes place is called contract month. At the time of writing a contract, a specific date is mentioned as to when the contact will expire. The month of that date is called the Contract Month. It is also called delivery month.
The ticker symbol expiration for each month is:

In most cases, such contracts are traded multiple times before the actual expiry. Volume tends to increase more and more as the expiration month is closer.
