Futures Knowledge Explains Current Delivery

The futures contract requires delivery of the underlying within a specified month known as delivery month. Futures derivatives for same commodity with different delivery months are available and traded. The latest delivery month is known as current delivery month.

For example, on June 9th 2015, Brent oil futures contracts for July 2015 traded at $64.62, August 2015 at $65.16 and so on for future months.  July 2015 futures contract has the nearest delivery date and so July 2015 contract is called current delivery contract.
